SUB offices to relocate amidst possible retrofitting

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA) asked the offices located in the Student Union Building (SUB) to relocate this academic year in light of possible retrofitting of the building.

“Hindi pa confirmed kung magkakaroon ng retrofitting. Ang confirmed ay nagkakaroon ng testing ng materials,” OVCSA Vice Chancellor Jose Carlo G. de Pano said in a closed meeting with Tinig ng Plaridel and Philippine Collegian on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Among the offices affected by the relocation are the University Student Council, the Philippine Collegian, the Office for Athletics and Sports Development and the Office of Student Projects and Activities (OSPA).

They will temporarily settle at Vinzons Hall, which is currently being prepared to house the affected offices as of press time.

De Pano said the offices should anticipate being relocated for a long period of time, should the retrofitting proceed.

The OVCSA’s affected programs, such as the Kapihan sa Diliman and the University Food Service, will temporarily transfer to dormitories and a station near Kalayaan Residence Hall, respectively.

The Diliman Learning Resource Center’s tutorial sessions will likewise be moved to Vinzons Hall and Third Space.

Reservations for activity rooms in the SUB will remain available until OSPA relocates offices by around Nov. 22.

The OSPA is currently coordinating with identified colleges to identify possible spaces on campus that may serve as rooms available for students’ reservation when the activity rooms in the SUB become unavailable.

The Office of the Vice President for Development is expected to confirm within the following weeks if the retrofitting will proceed.
