4 convicted cops in Jemboy Baltazar case out of detention

On the same day when the Navotas Regional Trial Court (RTC) handed down the verdict for the killing of Jemboy Baltazar, five convicted cops involved in the case walked free from detention upon receiving lesser penalties.

Out of the six cops charged with murder, only Police Staff Sergeant Gerry Maliban was convicted of homicide, a lesser crime punishable by four to six years imprisonment.

Access, privacy concerns remain as gov’t extends SIM registration deadline

More than 77 million SIMs remain unregistered, prompting the government to extend the registration period until July 25.
Aside from issues with registration portals, subscribers are also wary of the privacy and security threats posed by the SIM registration.
Telcos have requested the government to extend the deadline, while progressive groups submitted a petition to suspend the SIM Registration Act.

Estudyante ng UP CMC, inaresto matapos ang iglap-protesta sa US Embassy kontra Balikatan

Anim na indibidwal ang inaresto ng pulis matapos ang isang iglap-protesta sa Embahada ng Estados Unidos upang tutulan ang Balikatan Exercises. Kabilang dito si Gabriel Magtibay, isang mag-aaral ng UP College of Mass Communication. Ayon kay League of Filipino Students – UP Diliman Chairperson Louise Espina, wala pang nailalabas na resolusyon ang Manila City Hall tungkol sa naganap na pag-aresto.
