Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights in UP (STAND UP) and independent candidates equally split eight seats for the College of Social Works and Community Development (CSWCD) Student Council elections Thursday.
With 125 votes, Yasser Gutierrez of STAND UP won unopposed as the chairperson against 47 abstain votes.
Independent candidate Racquel Gertrude Correa bagged the vice chairperson for internal affairs seat after gaining 79 votes, only six votes more than STAND UP’s Hazel Mae Ampuan with 73 votes.
STAND UP’s Mary Philline Descalzo also won as the finance officer after garnering 18 votes more than independent candidate Aleya Carmela Arca’s 68 votes.
Both Community Development and Social Work representative positions were triumphed by independent candidates.
Mohammad Tajallih Basman is the new Community Development representative after reaping 48 votes against Stand UP’s Jake Ryne Evangelio with 36 votes. STAND UP’s Hillary Marie Ratilla fell three votes short of Rose Ann Paragas’ 15 votes to claim the position of Social Work representative.
Among other candidates who won unopposed were Marvin Noces of STAND UP, vice chairperson for external affairs and independent candidate Shayne Mae Lopez, secretary-general.
Audrey Antoniano of STAND UP won as CSWCD’s representative to the USC and bagged 80 votes against independent contender Daniel Alejandre with 71 votes.
This year’s recorded voter turnout is 39.36% or 172 over 437 eligible voters, 37 of which were manual votes due to earlier minor problems on the voters’ list, which were addressed right away. The poll opened at 8 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m.
