One vacant seat spares the UP College of Mass Communication (CMC) Freshies, Shifties, and Transferees (FSTs) Council from a fully complete slate.
The CMC FST council proclaimed its incoming set of student leaders last Friday evening, Sept. 20.
Garnering 83.48% of votes, first-year communication research (CRes) student Rainne Maegan Daquiz will lead as the council’s standard bearer as chairperson. This is the third consecutive year where a CRes student leads the FST council.
Meanwhile, first-year journalism student Maria Andrea Nicolette Blanch will serve as vice chairperson after securing 86.09% of votes.
Julliene Sharmaine Reyes, a journalism freshman, will represent the college to the University Freshie Council after receiving 87.83% of votes. This is also the fourth year a journalism student holds the same position.
Following a continuous slate of journalism student leaders, Lance Gabriel Gonzales won as secretary-general with a total vote of 93.04%.
Meanwhile, first-year broadcast media arts and studies (BMAS) student Fritz Clarisse Somyden received 81.74% of votes to be proclaimed treasurer.
For departmental representation, Jan Maximus Bulanadi, Abbygale Gonzales, and Jared Nathan Adamos will serve as the college’s BMAS, CRes, and journalism representatives, respectively.
Bulanadi garnered 93.94% of votes, while Adamos received 85.71%.
Gonzales, on the other hand, secured 100% total votes from her home department.
Only the film representative post remains vacant, steering away from the outgoing council’s complete officer slate last year. This coincides with another film post vacancy in the CMC Student Council and the generally observed vacancies in other colleges within the university.

This year’s voter turnout reached 54.50% as 115 out of 211 FSTs cast their votes from Sept. 18 to 19., according to the outgoing CMC FST council.
The FST council has yet to announce whether they will reopen applications to fill the vacancy for the film department.
