No class, work suspensions over transport strikes yet

Schools and government offices have yet to suspend classes and work due to nationwide transport strikes by PISTON and MANIBELA, contrary to claims circulating on Facebook.

Facebook page Today’s News falsely claimed in a post on Sunday, Sept. 14:

Walang pasok sa ilang paaralan at opisina bunsod ng gaganaping nationwide transport strike na pangungunahan ng PISTON.

It erroneously added PISTON’s strike will be from Sept. 15 to 18.

PISTON said it will only hold the strike on Sept. 18. Transport group MANIBELA also announced a three-day strike from Sept. 17 to 19.

The post mimicked the design and logo of the Philippine Collegian’s news cards. No such announcement appears on the student publication’s official social media pages.

Two AI detection tools showed the rehashed card was likely generated by AI.

Some online users have also shared the post to several Facebook groups based in Metro Manila.

The account has routinely posted bogus class and work suspension announcements since March.

As of writing, the post has drawn 108 shares, 74 reactions and 27 comments. The page has over 3,100 followers. (LB, AE)
