Maskom FST council complete for third straight year

Freshies, shiftees and transferees (FSTs) of the UP College of Media and Communication (CMC) will have a full slate of student leaders for A.Y. 2025 to 2026, the CMC FST council announced Friday, Sept. 12.

This marks the third consecutive year that all seats in the FST council were filled. In 2024, the council’s sole vacant seat — the film representative post– was filled via appointment to complete the roster.

Voter turnout for this year’s polls went up to 73.82 percent, with 141 out of 191 Maskom FSTs casting their votes over the three-day voting period, according to data from the CMC FST council.

This figure is significantly higher than the 54.5 percent voter turnout in 2024 and the 55.9 percent in 2023.

Broadcast media arts and studies freshman Elaina Reema Salvador was elected chairperson of the CMC FST Council with 91.5 percent, or 129 out of 141 votes cast.

Salvador ran unopposed, ending the three-year streak of communication research students in the position.

Journalism transferee Ashley Jei Guzman won the vice chairperson race with 96 votes, or 68.1 percent, over first-year film student Marianne Grace Escobia.

Two FSTs also vied for the college’s representative to the University Freshie Council (UFC) seat.

Reine Isabel Yongco, a film freshman, secured 56.7 percent of the votes to become Maskom’s representative to the UFC, besting first-year communication research student John Patrick Labidario.

A commanding 87.2 percent of the total votes elected first-year BMAS student Mharie Yurie Protesta as secretary-general, while communication research freshman Francesca Cailene Suarez secured the treasurer post with 76.6 percent.

All four departments in the college will be represented in the CMC FST council this year.

Freshmen Gianna Rae Remigio, Concepcion “Cion” Marfil and Jacob Nathaniel Nuñez were elected as the council’s BMAS, communication research and journalism representatives, respectively.

Once filled only by appointment, the film representative seat drew two contenders this year. Mark Rayven Posmasdero won the post with 19 votes, or 67.9 percent, over Ritchel Deocareza.
