[EDITORIAL] Logos won’t cover up failed leadership, Marcos Jr.

  • Posted on 23 July 202331 July 2023
  • byTinig ng Plaridel
Twelve months should have been enough time to lay the foundations for curing the nation’s ills, exacerbated by COVID-19. With mere promises, Marcos’ leadership has only driven the country into a downward spiral of economic turmoil and a shrinking democracy that no amount of rebranding can conceal.

[EDITORYAL] Hindi na lamang ito alaala. UP, kumilos ka.

  • Posted on 10 May 202210 May 2022

[EDITORIAL] UP, the “boat” is sinking. Don’t pretend it isn’t.

  • Posted on 15 February 202215 February 2022
  • byTinig ng Plaridel
UP has seen all the charts and the graphs. It knows, as anyone does, that the community has been treading unstable waters since the start of the pandemic. Everything we’ve done in the past years under remote learning is patching holes.

[EDITORIAL] For our education system, “normal” is not enough

  • Posted on 29 December 20215 February 2022
  • byTinig ng Plaridel
To the Filipino students who will cap off the year still under distance learning, reverting to the “normal” setup won’t be enough. The return to schools in 2022 must be safe, genuine and free from tyranny.

[OPINION] It is darkest behind the camera’s flash

  • Posted on 29 November 20213 December 2021
  • byGuinevere Latoza and Ivy Ferrer
Photojournalism seems like a noble job, but the industry reveals a harsh reality. Behind the eye-catching images lurk questionable assignments and freelance work. As we join our photo subjects’ fight towards freedom from oppression, we must also remain vigilant of the same ills that occupy our ranks.

[EDITORIAL] Elections, the impunity theater

  • Posted on 23 November 20215 February 2022
  • byTinig ng Plaridel
Impunity becomes more potent in the elections. Now is not the time to merely chronicle this violent history. Not when our colleagues perish without reason. Not when we’ve seen what the state can do to silence the critical press.

[EDITORIAL] From one dictator to another: Unearthing each other’s grave

  • Posted on 30 September 202130 September 2021
  • byTinig ng Plaridel
One of Ferdinand Marcos’ children is sitting comfortably in the Senate. The other, seeking higher office. His wife, scot-free from multiple counts of graft. Right from the grave, the dictator is rising unstopped.

Who else took him out of his sepulcher but President Duterte himself?

[OPINION] No, Belo, I don’t need to buy my beauty

  • Posted on 15 September 202120 September 2021
  • byJem Torrecampo
Women will not find their deliverance in a divisive paradigm of beauty. The true redress to the harms they endure is beyond individual cosmetization, rather in a collective liberation from the system that fuels their insecurities.
