Oil tax hike afflicts transport sector workers; drivers face income cut

Oil expenses consume one-third of the income of the 55-year-old jeepney driver, due to the rise of fuel prices.

This increase has caused UP-PhilCOA driver Melvin Ladran to struggle even more in budgeting his daily 800-peso earnings for his five children.

The oil excise tax increase imposed earlier this year has heavily reduced the income of transport sector workers, especially public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers like Ladran.

Students mark 10th year of Maguindanao Massacre; decry lack of justice

UP College of Mass Communication (CMC) students, faculty members and administrators held a candle lighting protest at the CMC Veranda yesterday in commemoration of the nearing 10th year anniversary of the Ampatuan-Maguindanao Massacre.

32 media practitioners out of 58 victims were killed on the November 23, 2009 massacre, which is now considered the deadliest attack against journalists in history.
