Alone/Together: Formulaic mainstream offering with untapped radical potential

Fresh from her movie with JaDine, Antoinette Jadaone leads LizQuen to heights the famed love team has yet to reach in their careers. Alone/Together delivers a satisfying take on a romance abrupted and an individual disenchanted. However, as weightful as the movie may be, it was a frustrated piece that easily could’ve been more provocative if only it were braver.

Students mark 10th year of Maguindanao Massacre; decry lack of justice

UP College of Mass Communication (CMC) students, faculty members and administrators held a candle lighting protest at the CMC Veranda yesterday in commemoration of the nearing 10th year anniversary of the Ampatuan-Maguindanao Massacre.

32 media practitioners out of 58 victims were killed on the November 23, 2009 massacre, which is now considered the deadliest attack against journalists in history.

Maliwanag na paninikil sa kalayaan ang pag-aresto kay Maria Ressa, isang mamamahayag ng Rappler at matinding kritiko ni Presidente Rodrigo Duterte, ukol sa kasong cyber libel na isinampa ng Departement of Justice (DOJ).

Napalaya na si Ressa matapos nitong magpiyansa ngunit hindi pa rin maiaalis ang katotohanang naliligo sa kapangyarihan ang gobyerno. Kaya nilang gumawa, magpatupad, at magsilbing hukom sa mga batas na maaring gamitin laban sa mamamayan. Maaring pansamantala nang nakalaya si Ressa, ngunit patuloy pa ring nakakulong ang midya sa banta na mas malaki pang porma ng pang-aabuso ang maari nilang sapitin dulot ng nag-uumapaw na kapangyarihan ng estado.

Rainbow’s Sunset and the state of the festering MMFF

The 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival has been plagued by controversies even before it had begun. Apart from the criticism towards its predictable film line-up – a Vic Sotto and a Coco Martin crossover action-comedy, a Vice Ganda fantasy-slapstick comedy, two horror films, two romantic comedies, a romance drama, and a family drama – off-screen controversies continued to surround the festival.

Higit 1,000 mag-aaral sa UPD, walang libreng matrikula

Lagpas 8 porsiyento ng mga di-gradwadong mag-aaral sa UP Diliman (UPD) ang hindi nakatamasa ng libreng matrikula nitong semestre dala ng mga kondisyong itinala sa pagpapatupad ng Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act o RA 10931.

Sa 13,167 na nakatalang di-gradwadong mag-aaral, 1,143 o 8.44% ang nagbabayad ng matrikula ayon sa datos na nakalap mula sa Office of the University Registrar (OUR).
