Union decries ‘unfair’ dismissal in sexual harassment case
After two employees from the University Hotel were fired due to complaints of sexual harassment, the University Hotel Worker’s Union (UHWU) said they have not been fairly represented in the case and that the decision was not “humane.”
In protest, union members hung a tarpaulin along Aglipay street, in front of the University Hotel, which reads, “Dr. Grace Gregorio Union Buster ng UHWU.”
It has since been removed by order of the Resident Manager.
BC Reps-elect call to honor abstentions, CSEB: ‘no rules’ on abstain votes
The newly-declared College of Mass Communication Student Council (CMCSC) Broadcast Communication (BC) Representatives released an online statement urging the College Student Electoral Board (CSEB) to honor the validity of the abstentions in the April 11 polls.
“Ignoring the abstain votes is going against the students’ right to choose their representatives,” BC Representative-elect Sophia Gabrielle Vizcarra said in a Facebook post.
Vizcarra called for special elections both for the two BC representatives posts and the remaining communication research representative position.

Oil tax hike afflicts transport sector workers; drivers face income cut
Oil expenses consume one-third of the income of the 55-year-old jeepney driver, due to the rise of fuel prices.
This increase has caused UP-PhilCOA driver Melvin Ladran to struggle even more in budgeting his daily 800-peso earnings for his five children.
The oil excise tax increase imposed earlier this year has heavily reduced the income of transport sector workers, especially public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers like Ladran.
