Maroons continue woes; loses to Falcons anew

The University of the Philippines continued with their slump after suffering a 67-53 loss at the hands of Adamson University in the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It was the 17th straight loss of the Fighting Maroons, who last won in Season 75 during their first round encounter against University of the East.

Youth groups join anti-pork barrel march to Luneta

Youth groups joined thousands of Filipinos at the Million People March in Luneta Park Monday to call for the abolition of the pork barrel system and the rechanneling of public funds to education and basic social services.

The March to Luneta spurred public discontent after reports from the Commission on Audit revealed some P10 billion funds from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of nearly 200 senators and congressmen were allegedly given out to bogus non-government organizations.

The call, therefore, must be not only for the abolition of the PDAF, but of the entire pork barrel system. As long as there are no concrete safeguards for transparency and accountability, the pork needs to be permanently gagged.

IN FOCUS: UP profs wear sablay to oppose pork barrel

Faculty members from various colleges in UP Diliman wore the sablay Friday to call for the abolition of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), also known as the pork barrel.

The call was made amidst what came to be known as the Pork Barrel Scandal involving members of the Congress. Twenty-eight senators and representatives were reportedly found to be giving their pork barrel funds to bogus non-government organizations.

The word today flashed before him in black ink, between minor distractions and talks about his ‘sweetheart.’

The boy, no older than four, smiled bashfully at a student-teacher who continued to watch him closely, her patience constant and firm amidst the little kid’s blabbering about puppy love. She smiled back at him, coaxing and telling the little boy that she will call his sweetheart for him.
