MANILA – The University of the Philippines Women’s Badminton Team swept the eliminations on Sunday after routing Far Eastern University, 4-1, at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
This gives the team a thrice-to-beat advantage in the finals round of UAAP Season 77’s women’s badminton tournament.
The Lady Maroons now awaits the winner of the step-ladder semifinals that is set to begin this week.
Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University are tied at second place with a 5-2 slate and will face each other again on Saturday, which will decide on whether who carries the twice-to-beat advantage to the finals.
Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas are tied at 4-3 record and will battle for the last Final Four spot in a do-or-die match.
Meanwhile, the UP Men’s Badminton Team will battle Ateneo in a do-or-die match next week to determine La Salle’s opponent in the step-ladder format.
National University Bulldogs topped the male category with a perfect slate after beating Ateneo, 3-2, and now enjoys a thrice-to-beat edge while waiting for an opponent in the finals.
