Season woes continue as the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Lady Maroons began the second round losing to the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws, 46-76, in the UAAP Season 82 women’s basketball tournament today at the Mall of Asia Arena.

It was a crushing defeat for the State U squad that couldn’t muster a single lead throughout the game.

The bad luck was only made worse as Stiff Larrosa aggravated a previous ankle injury, and had to leave the game with 3:30 left in the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, one bright spot included Lulu Ordoveza who scored 12 points to lead the team.

On her game today, Ordoveza said amid the loss and being late in the season, she feels she’s found her groove.

“This was a confidence booster,” she said. “After the first round, I felt like I was pretty absent and I wasn’t helping the team much.”

However, Ordoveza doesn’t take the loss lightly, and says that there is a difference between this game and the first round game against FEU where UP lost by only six points.

“I feel like a lot of us were thinking too much. Maybe it was the pressure,” she said, noting how the UP team is still looking for its first win since season 79.

Despite the winless record, the Maroons still aren’t mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. They look to capitalize on the rest of the season as they face their next opponent – the University of the East (UE) Lady Red Warriors, October 12, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
