It was a tough day for the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons as they get swept in all their games in the final day of the UAAP Season 81 3×3 competition, where they finished in third place.

UP’s first game saw a rematch of the Season 81 finals against the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles. The Maroons were down two late in the game, but a Juan GDL bucket tied it at 10-all. Ateneo’s Matt Nieto then denied the Maroons by drilling the game winner to squeak out the win, 10-11.

Shades of the final four were seen as UP went up against the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons, but this time, it was Adamson who came out on top after the dagger from Jerrick Ahanmisi, 13-15, to end the elimination round.

UP was caught in a four-way tie with the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers, and the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, all with a 3-3 win-loss record.

After following the quotient rule, UP placed in second and would go head-to-head with third-seed UST in the semi-finals.

UP saw their final game of the 3×3 competition as the Growling Tigers repeat their elims win over the Maroons in a tight contest. It was neck and neck all throughout, with UST keeping UP at bay and eventually winning the game, 11-14.

The Fighting Maroons improve their standing from last season’s competition where they did not qualify for the semis. TNP
