The University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad along with members of the UP Filipiniana Dance Group bagged their first gold medal in an international cheerleading championship at the 2nd Asian Cheerleading Dancesport Championships (ACDC) at Jakarta, Indonesia, Nov. 26 to 27.

Representing the Philippines, the phenomenal groups garnered gold for the Mixed Group Stunts category, silver medals for the All-Female Team Cheer, Cheerdance Duo and Cheerdance Group categories and bronze medals for the All-Female Group Stunts and Mixed Team Cheer categories, according to UP Art Studies professor Dr. Eloi Hernandez who accompanied the squad during the event.

Prior to the competition, the UP Pep Squad performed their routine in a pep rally exclusively held for the group’s supporters at the College of Human Kinetics, UP Diliman.

The team will be competing and representing the country next year at the 9th Cheerleading World Championships in Takasaki City, Japan.
