The University of the Philippines gained its third win in four outings in the second round after beating the De La Salle University, 3-1, Sunday in the UAAP Men’s Football tournament at the Far Eastern University-Diliman football field.

Gio Diamante put La Salle ahead early on, scoring the first goal of the game in the 24th minute. But UP’s Fe Baya netted a goal in the 33rd to immediately neutralize.

Maroon striker Jinggoy Valmayor converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute after being fouled by Archer Nicko Villacin to give UP a 2-1 lead.

Vincent Aguilar finally sealed the win for UP after a clinical goal in injury time.

UP remains at second with 19 points for a 6-3-1 win-loss-draw record, behind FEU’s 27 points and 9-1-0 card.

The Maroons will next face University of the East on Feb. 2 at the Ateneo De Manila University football pitch.
