A Quick Guide to CMC FST Month 2018

Can’t get enough of Maskom? Numerous activities await freshies, shiftees, and transferees (FSTs) in their first month at the UP College of Mass Communication (CMC).

The CMC FST Month 2018 aims to give the college’s newcomers a glimpse of Maskom culture and university life through a series of events, starting with the Welcome Assembly last Monday, August 6.

Entitled Laya: Camp Maskom, the FST Month represents the experience and fight for freedom, and the feeling of home away from home. It is presented by the CMC Student Council (SC), in partnership with student organizations from the college.

Here is the list of remaining activities in store this FST Month:

August 14-17, 2018 (Tuesday-Friday)
5:00 to 6:30 P.M.

The FST Cup is a week-long competition among CMC’s four departments. Each team color will represent a department: yellow for Broadcast Communication, red for Communication Research, blue for Journalism, and green for Film.

Leadership Training
August 20, 2018 (Monday)

During the Leadership Training, FSTs will be educated on the struggles of different sectors in the country, as well as how they can contribute as leaders and future media practitioners.

A series of educational discussions (EDs) on student leadership and activism will be conducted by political organizations from CMC. The training also aims to inspire participants to run for the CMC FST Council.

CMC Org Fair
August 23-24, 2018 (Thursday-Friday)

The CMC Org Fair is a two-day gathering of all Maskom-based student organizations to introduce FSTs to their potential families in the university.

Each organization will set up a booth, which FSTs can freely approach. Freebies and other giveaways are often distributed by the participating orgs.

The venue for the event is yet to be announced by the CMC student council.

FST Council Miting de Avance and Elections
August 31, 2018 (Friday); September 1-2, 2018 (Saturday-Sunday)

The CMC FST Council will represent the FSTs through activities, council meetings, and other official assemblies in the university throughout the academic year.

Any FST interested to run for council shall submit a letter of intent to the CMC student council. Filing will start on August 20, Monday, after the Leadership Training, and will end on August 24, Friday. Candidates will be announced the following day on August 25, Saturday.

An online campaign will take place over the week, and all candidates must present their general and specific plans of action during the Miting de Avance on August 31, Friday.

The FST Council Elections will take place online through Google Form from September 1 to 2.

Media Tour
September 1, 2018 (Saturday)

The Media Tour is a trip that will bring FSTs to esteemed media organizations to give them a firsthand view of the industry.

Notable stops during previous media tours include the Philippine Daily Inquirer and Monster RX 93.1.

Specific details, aside from the date, are yet to be determined by the CMC SC.

FST Culmination Night
September 7, 2018

The Culmination Night is the final event of the FST Month. Blocs will hold a three- to seven-minute performance with the help of their student organization handlers.

Awards to be given out include Best Bloc Handler, Best Bloc Performance, and Mr. and Ms. FST.

Winners of the FST Council Elections will also be announced during the event.

Other activities during the Culmination Night are still being finalized as of press time.
