UAAP| UP defends streetdance title

With the win, UP got its second consecutive UAAP streetdance championship and the P120,000 cash prize in the contest’s comeback after a one-year hiatus.

MANILA – The University of the Philippines Streetdance Club clinched the top prize today in this season’s UAAP Streetdance Competition at the Mall of Asia Arena.

With the win, UP got its second consecutive UAAP streetdance championship and the P120,000 cash prize in the contest’s comeback after a one-year hiatus.

The UP Streetdance Club finished ahead of Company of Ateneo Dancers and La Salle Dance Company – Street who claimed second and third places, respectively.

UPSDC succeeded in its revenge after a third place finish in the Skechers Street Dance Competition, behind La Salle and Ateneo. Inspired with Philippine street games, UP seized the competition with 178.0 points, far ahead from Ateneo and La Salle who garnered 167.3 and 167.0, respectively.

Co-captain Ino Rupisan felt very excited with the win and thanked the Maroon crowd for the support. “We would like to offer our win to God and to the UP community,” Rupisan said.

UP Street coach Von Asilo was overwhelmed with the win and praised the performance of the team. “It was their best run so far. Sobrang saya talaga namin kasi we somehow managed to retain the title,” Asilo said.

Rounding up the competition were Adamson Cast who placed fourth with 160.3 points and FEU Dance Company who placed fifth with 151.3 points. UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe ended sixth with 143.7 points, while UE Warriors and NU Underdawgz finished seventh and eighth with 137.0 and 126.5 points respectively.
