MANILA – The University of the Philippines Beach Volleyball Teams both hold a 1-2 card after the opening weekend of the UAAP Season 77 Beach Volleyball Tournament at the University of the East-Caloocan sand court.

The UP Lady Maroons bested the UE Lady Warriors on Saturday while their Male counterpart fell to UST Growling Tigers.

The winning duo of Arylle Magtalas and Hannah Mangulabnan, with reserve Arielle Estrañero beat UE’s Krysel Cueva and Lhen Cais in straight sets 21-18, 21-17.

Evan Raymundo and Alfred Valbuena of the Men’s team, on the other hand, fell to UST’s Mark Alfafara and Kris Roy Guzman in a similar straight-set fashion, 21-16, 21-14.

Today, however, the Men’s team shut out DLSU Green Archers in straight sets, 21-14, 21-19, bouncing back from their earlier loss against the NU Bulldogs, 21-14, 21-15, improving to a 1-2 win-loss card.

“Nakapag-adjust kami ngayon kasi sa past games namin, di kami sanay sa ganung klaseng init. Kasi dati, hapon yung training namin na palubog na yung araw. Mas okay din yung skills namin, especially sa serve at block (We have adjusted today because in our past games, we weren’t used to the heat since we train in the afternoon. Also, our skills were good today, especially on the serve and block),” Raymundo said.

On the other hand, the Lady Maroons suffered back-to-back losses against the Lady Bulldogs, 21-9, 21-12, and against the Lady Archers, 21-17, 21-17, sinking to a 1-2 standing.

The men’s team will face FEU on Wednesday, while the women’s team will battle against ADMU and UST on the same day.
