MANILA – The University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons failed to seek a win today after losing to Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons, 44-57 at the Blue Eagle Gym, Ateneo De Manila University.
The UP team maintains a winless record in four games for the first round of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 77 Women’s Basketball Tournament.
“Skill-wise, talent-wise, match na match naman tayo ng Adamson. Ang naging crucial part ay yung last two three points ni Balasta at too many errors (Skill-wise, talent-wise, we are at par with Adamson. The crucial part is the last two three points of Balasta and too many errors),” Lady Maroons head coach Ramon Garcia said.
UP committed 38 turnovers in the game which Adamson took advantage of scoring 23 points from it.
Antonia Wong’s 12 points, UP’s lone double-digit scorer, was not enough to slate its first victory from the game. Captain Ball Bea Daez was limited to five points in this match.
Adamson’s lead scorers were Jingky Balasta who exploded with 22 points, 12 from outside the perimeter; and Jesusa Avila who chipped in 13 points.
UP started slow in the first quarter scoring only in the last two minutes but lose grip of the quarter ending it with only the score of Wong, 2-14.
The Diliman-based cage belles started to rally in the second quarter with an 8-0 run and continue it in the third. Iriss Isip energized the team by firing two from the outside to lessen the lead from 11 to four, 29-33.
Yet in the end, the Lady Maroons crashed down in the final canto giving up three consecutive fouls and allowing the Lady Falcons to boost a 24 to 15 score in the wings of Balasta and ending the game, 44-57.
UP is still on a campaign of their first win and will next face University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Lady Tigresses on August 3 at the Blue Eagle Gym.
